So I’ve been cooking on this idea for a while now, and now I’m actually moving forward with it.
It came about during a discussion with a friend here about “What bands ever came out of Indiana? What do you all do there?” and I thought it was about time somebody actually put something together in that regard.
With that in mind, I thought, “Why not see if I can write a book about it?”
I want to focus on Indiana punk and hardcore, from 1978-1998. Of course, current bands would be mentioned in context, but I really want to examine the foundations of what was going on, what was important, during that time period.
Venues, labels, and stores would also be included in context. My requirements for bands is that they must have put out at least one record–either on their own or through a label–and done some touring. Opening for bigger signed bands is a plus, having a signed band open for THEM an even bigger plus.
So here’s my off-the-top-of-my-head list. I’m looking for suggestions/reminders, especially for the early stuff. Who should be included here? Who should I talk with? What have I missed?
Keep in mind, I’m looking for suggestions, but not “My brother was in a punk band that played our house a few times.” Look through the list and remember that all of these bands, people, venues and such operated at a certain level, and I consider that the bare minimum.
